'Kavalan' loaded with sentiments

Many of us know 'Kavalan' is not going to be a usual Vijay film. Adding more fuel to this belief, reliable sources now say the second half of the movie will be filled with sentiments, which would appease youngsters and elders alike.

"The post-interval session is all about emotions shared between characters played by Vijay and Rajkiran. It will be interesting and at the same time will touch the heart straight," sources say.

Produced by Ekaveera Creations and released by Sakthi Chidambaram's Cinema Paradise and overseas release by JK Sarvana Tantra films, 'Kavalan', Vijay's 51st film is directed by Siddique, who wielded megaphone for its Malayalam original 'Bodyguard' too. Asin is the heroine while humour will be provided by Vadivelu. Music is by Vidyasagar.

Kaavalan gets average theaters !

If reports are to be believed, Kaavalan has just got 70 theatres for screening and a majority of them are just average theatres. The film’s distributor Shakthi Chidambaram wanted to release the film in at least 400 theatres but many theatre owners are not willing to screen the film as their issue with the star is not resolved yet.

It may be recalled that the theatre owners are distraught with Vijay as his earlier films did not do well and the actor refused to take responsibility for it and compensate the losses. With just about 70 theatres willing to screen Kaavalan, which is slated to be a Pongal release, the filmmakers are contemplating their next move. Will Kaavalan finally see the light of the day during this Pongal?

Kaavalan in Jaya’s court?

Jaya TV is reportedly considering buying the satellite rights of Kaavalan. The talks are still in the nascent stages and the outcome will be known shortly, says our sources. Kaavalan’s release has been marred by several uncertainties and finally the movie’s release date has been scheduled for January 14^th, 2011.

The tinsel town is abuzz with news that Vijay may campaign for Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK and his father’s meeting with the leader has also raised the speculation.

And now the news about Jaya TV planning to buy the satellite rights of Kaavalam is only indicating the close proximity that Vijay enjoys with the AIADMK.

Vijay fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Kaavalan and the star is busy with the Velayudham shooting. With the official announcement out that Vijay is not a part of the 3 Idiots remake; his fans were left wondering what his next project would be.

Here it is! Pagalavan, which director Seeman had announced before being sent to jail for making some adverse remarks against the government, is due to take off soon. Soon after being released, Seeman had said that he would commence Pagalavan and now we have news that the film will be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu. Pagalavan will take off next year, we hear.

VIJAY'S PRIORITY IN TAMILNADU DEVELOPEMENT !!

The rousing reception for Vijay during the Kaavalan trailer launch in the US had the star in awe. The event took place on December 16, 2010, at the India Community Center (ICC), Milpitas, California, USA with Vijay fans having a great time.

The star was accorded the Red Carpet welcome from his Hummer Limousine to the dais with his fans cheering him all through the way. Vijay took the opportunity to request his fans in the US to work hard towards achieving their goals and concentrate in the growth of Tamil Nadu as well.

World Premiere launch of Vijay's upcoming Kaavalan trailer will be held in Bay Area, California, USA, today, Dec 16, 2010. This is the first time the trailer launch of a Tamil film is held outside India. Vijay will be present at the event in Bay Area, California and will be greeted with a 20 passenger Hummer Limo, arranged by his fans.

VIJAY IS IN AMERICA !!

When the world was waiting for him at the Poes Garden expecting him to meet AIADMK Supremo Jayalalitha to make a political statement, we hear that Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay has quietly flown to America.
 
Our sources say that Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay has flown into Bay Area in California today to spend a week with fans and also enjoy a much deserved vacation.  He will also release the trailer of ‘Kavalan’ in USA during his stay.




Vijay fans in the area have made elaborate plans to have a good time with the star. There will be a ‘Vijay Unplugged’ Musical Nite on December 16th and Ilaya Thalapathi will be the guest of honor.

NEW PETITION SERVED TO KAVALAN

Vijay-starrer Kavalan is facing one hurdle after the other with various issues plaguing the release of the film. First it was a petition filed by a distributor, Saravanan, over a breach of contract with the producer Romesh Babu.

This issue was sorted out by the parties concerned and when everyone heaved a sigh of relief that Kavalan will hit the screens as planned, the Theatre Owners’ Association threatened not to exhibit the film unless Vijay takes care of their losses suffered for screening his previous films, which were box-office duds.

The latest is a case filed by Gokulam Chit Funds claiming that the producer of Bodyguard, based on which Kavalan has been remade, has given them the remake rights. This case came up for hearing recently and the judge ordered that the film’s release cannot be stayed as sought by the petitioner Gokulam Chit Funds. The case has been posted for further hearing this Friday.

1. Pattam Poochi – Kay Kay, Rita
A foot tapping melody number that has a lot of fun feel to it. The song starts off with the usual different style of instrumentation that Vidyasagar is known for. Kay Kay who is a well established singer is highly adept with singing in this song, and the female singer gives him decent support. The lyrics are good though not too poetic in nature. Its refreshing to listen to such a foot tapping melody song without too much of sound mixing, layering and the extra fittings that is common among today’s music composers. A very catchy tune, this song should grow on you if it does not catch you on first hearing

2. Sada Sada Vena – Karthik
A very peppy romantic song. This song adds a lot of peppy mood to the proceedings. A song where the hero sings about his love interest, Karthik is just outstanding with this song (as he always does). Very good arrangements by Vidyasagar with the instrumentation that adds a lot of romantic feel and pep to the song. An instant hit song! Again, no unnecessary layering or sound mixing, just pure music.

3. Step It Up – Benny Dayal, Megha
The best song of the album, by miles! A Western style peppy song thats truly meant for the dance floors, this song truly rocks! Just too mouth watering to imagine the kind of dancing treat that will be served by Vijay in sync with this song. Benny Dayal proves why he is the biggest find in the Indian music industry in recent times. He rocks the floor, and is supported very well by the female singer. A very unusual song coming from Vidyasagar, who uses a beautiful mixture of raw beats along with the regular drum beats to create a very peppy atmosphere to the song. This song has all the makings of a chartbuster.

4. Vinnai Kappan Oruvan – Tippu, Swetha

Here comes the vintage Vijay intro style song with that ‘heavy rural tinge’ to it. Fortunately or unfortunately, this song is not in the league of earlier Vijay classic intro songs, but this song comes with a lot of energy that makes you want to move your body to its beats and tune. Tippu, the favorite Vijay singer, is back to sing for Vijay, and he is in top form. The song resembles a little with the superhit “Devuda Devuda” from Chandramukhi (that was also by Vidyasagar) but it charts out its own path after a few similarities. The lyrics are aimed at the fans with liberal doses of advice (a common trend for the intro songs of mass heroes) but the song catches you enough to make you want to revisit it again. If you are a Vijay fan, chances are you might lap this one up. If you are a neutral or from the opposite side, not much in here for you.

5. Yaar Athu – Karthik, Suchitra

A soft and melodious song, somewhat in the lines of the recent Hindi hit song “Hello Hello” from Rahman’s “Jhoota Hi Sahi” (this one is more peppier than that song!). A song thats based on a telephone conversation (the female “Hello” sounds are interspersed inbetween). A very beautiful song thats highly situational in nature and one that could be heavily enhanced by the visuals that accompany it. A vintage Vidyasagar melody song, this song will be a good companion on a calm and/or rainy night. Karthik gets two songs in this album, and he is incredibly superb in both songs. One of the best singers of this generation, he lifts this song to great heights. Suchitra comes for some humming parts, but apart from that, its a complete Karthik song. This song has the potential to grow really fast onto you and makes you hum to it very easily.

Overall Verdict: The songs are certainly not the kind of instant chartbusters that Vijay’s albums are known for. In fact it cannot be classified as the regular Vijay album thats filled with lot of kuthu/folk/fast beat songs. This album has a good share of melodies and soft music that will please the average music listener too. It has a peppy intro type song to please the fans, it has a very peppy Western style dance floor song for the youth, and the melody for the purists. Tough to see this album scorch the charts immediately. It will grow on the listeners, and the best sales of this album might come after the movie releases, so that the listeners will have the visuals to combine along with these melodious tunes.
